The Mavek On-Page SEO Checker is a free tool that audits any public URL against the on-page signals Google and ChatGPT read. It checks the title tag, meta description, canonical, headings, image alt text, links, JSON-LD schema and Open Graph. It scores the page out of 100 on 14 checks and reports 5 AI answer readiness checks alongside. No signup.
What is an on-page SEO checker?
An on-page SEO checker is a tool that reads one web page's HTML and grades the signals Google, Bing and AI answer engines use to understand it. Those signals are the title tag, meta description, headings, image alt text, canonical tag, links and structured data. It works on a single URL, not a whole site, so it suits a page you are writing, editing or comparing against a competitor.
Google answers this query with tools, not articles. On 5 Oct 2026, the Google AI Overview for "on page seo checker" in the US cited 6 sources, and all 6 were single-page tools or extensions: Seobility, Wincher, Yoast, Sitechecker, DebugBear and the Chrome Web Store. That is why the checker sits at the top of this page and the explanation sits below it.
"Meeting the technical requirements covers you for search generally, including AI formats."
John Mueller, Google Search Relations, Google Search Central blog, May 2025
What does an on-page SEO audit check?
An on-page SEO audit checks 6 groups of signals, and the Mavek checker scores each of them. The table lists every scored check and the range that earns full points.
| Group | Check | Full points when |
|---|---|---|
| Title and meta | Title tag | 50 to 60 characters |
| Title and meta | Meta description | 120 to 160 characters |
| Title and meta | Canonical, robots meta, viewport | Canonical set, page indexable, viewport present |
| Headings | H1 and hierarchy | Exactly one H1, no skipped levels (H2 to H4) |
| Images | Alt text | Every image has alt text |
| Links | Internal and external links | At least one link; internal links present |
| Structured data | JSON-LD | At least one valid JSON-LD block |
| Other | Open Graph, lang attribute | og:title, og:description and og:image set; lang on <html> |
Title length matters because Google often replaces titles it does not like. Cyrus Shepard's Zyppy study of 80,959 title tags (2022) found Google rewrote 61.6% of them, so a tight, accurate title is the best way to keep the one you wrote.
"we do use titles as a tiny factor in our rankings as well."

How do you audit on-page SEO in 5 steps?
You audit on-page SEO by checking one page's HTML against a fixed list, fixing the failures, then re-checking. With the Mavek checker it takes about a minute:
- Enter the URL in the checker above and press Check URL. For a page that is not live yet, paste its HTML source instead.
- Read the score out of 100 and the grade: Excellent, Good, Average or Needs Work.
- Fix the red (fail) items first: a missing title, meta description, H1 or viewport tag.
- Work through the amber (warn) items: length warnings, skipped heading levels, missing alt text, no canonical.
- Re-run the check, then review the AI Answer Readiness section for the citation-focused fixes.
Meta descriptions deserve a write, not a skip. Ahrefs' study of 192,656 pages found Google rewrites meta descriptions 62.78% of the time, yet a description that matches the page's main query is the one most likely to be shown as written.
"So the meta description is primarily used as a snippet in the search results page."

What is a good on-page SEO score?
A good on-page SEO score is 80 or more out of 100, which the Mavek checker grades Excellent. 60 to 79 is Good, 40 to 59 is Average, and under 40 is Needs Work. The score is the share of available points earned across the 14 checks, so one missing title (15 points) costs more than one missing lang attribute (5 points).
Treat the score as a checklist, not a ranking prediction. In our 5 Oct 2026 sample, 3 of the 25 pages ranking for "on-page SEO checker" queries did not have exactly one H1, and they still ranked. A warning means "worth fixing", not "this page cannot rank".
"Your site can do perfectly fine with no h1 tags or with five h1 tags."
John Mueller, Google Search Relations, via Search Engine Roundtable
How do the pages ranking for "on-page SEO checker" score on their own checks?
The pages ranking for "on-page SEO checker" miss the same basics they check for. On 5 Oct 2026 we pulled the US top 10 from DataForSEO for 5 queries: on page seo checker, onpage seo checker, on page seo audit, on page seo analyzer and free on page seo audit. We dropped forums and social posts, then ran this checker's rules on the 25 tool and guide pages we could fetch.
Three findings stand out. 79% of pages with images had at least one image without alt text (19 of 24; one page had none). Only 16.4% of all 225 H2s across the 25 pages were written as questions, the format AI engines quote most. And the median page ran 1,393 words, so length was not what separated them. Alt text is the cheapest of these fixes.
"Alt text is extremely helpful for Google Images -- if you want your images to rank there."

Does on-page SEO matter for ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews?
On-page SEO matters for ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews because both pull answers from pages that already rank in web search, then quote the clearest passage. Kevin Indig's Growth Memo analysis of 18,012 verified ChatGPT citations (Feb 2026) found 44.2% came from the first 30% of the page, and 78.4% of cited text containing a question came from headings. That data is ChatGPT only and correlational, but it points at the same fixes: answer first, phrase H2s as questions, and name things.
The AI Answer Readiness section of the checker reports exactly that. It shows whether half your H2s are questions, whether the opening paragraph leads with an "X is..." answer, and whether FAQPage schema, Organization schema and a named author are present. It is reported, not scored, because no engine publishes a rule for any of them.
"It worked every time because LLMs use search engines, and the articles were quickly indexed and ranked well in web search."
Lily Ray, SEO consultant, "A reflection on SEO and AI search", Jan 2026
What is the difference between on-page and technical SEO?
The difference between on-page and technical SEO is scope. On-page SEO covers the content and HTML of a single page: title, headings, copy, images, metadata and structured data. Technical SEO covers the whole site: crawlability, XML sitemaps, robots.txt, Core Web Vitals, redirects and indexing. A page with perfect on-page signals can still fail if Googlebot cannot crawl it.
The two fail differently. All 25 pages in our sample had a canonical tag, a technical basic, but 8 of 25 (32%) had no structured data at all, an on-page gap. This checker covers the on-page side; the PageSpeed checker, robots.txt generator and XML sitemap generator cover the technical side.
"Structured data is useful for sharing information about your content in a machine-readable way"
John Mueller, Google Search Relations, Google Search Central blog, May 2025
Which free on-page SEO checkers are worth using?
The free on-page SEO checkers worth using are Seobility, Sitechecker, Yoast, DebugBear and the Mavek checker, which all run a one-page check with no signup. Semrush Site Audit needs a free account but crawls a full site. Free limits differ more than features: Seobility allows 5 checks a day, SEO Site Checkup 1 a day logged out, and Semrush 100 pages a month. Every limit and price below was checked on the vendor's own page on 5 Oct 2026.

None of the other tool pages we opened mentions a paste-HTML option, which matters for pages behind a login or still in staging. The full breakdown, with paid prices, is in our guide to the best free on-page SEO checkers. Whichever tool you use, the title it checks is a suggestion to Google, not a guarantee.

When is a one-page check not enough?
A one-page check is not enough when the problem is site-wide: a template that strips schema from 300 product pages, internal links that never reach a key page, or a brand that ChatGPT and Perplexity never name. Those need a crawl and AI visibility tracking, not a single URL.
That is what Mavek's SEO and AEO audit covers on the free 14-day trial. The SEO agent crawls your real site, audits it page by page and ranks the fixes, and Mavek tracks your brand across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews. AI search visitors are worth the effort: at Ahrefs, AI search sent 0.5% of visits but 12.1% of signups (Ahrefs, Jun 2025, one company's data). For prices outside Mavek, see what an SEO audit costs.

On-Page SEO Questions, Answered
Is there a free tool to check on-page SEO?
Yes. The Mavek On-Page SEO Checker is free with no signup: enter any public URL and it scores the page out of 100 across 14 on-page checks, then reports 5 AI answer readiness checks alongside. Seobility, Yoast, Wincher, Sitechecker and Rank Math also run free single-page checks; the comparison above shows where each one fits.
How do I check my on-page SEO?
Enter the page's URL in the checker above and press Check URL. It fetches the page and checks the title length, meta description, canonical, H1 and heading hierarchy, image alt coverage, links, JSON-LD structured data, Open Graph tags and AI answer readiness, then grades the page and lists what to fix. If a site blocks automated requests, or the page is not public yet, view its source (Cmd/Ctrl+U), copy the HTML and paste it in instead.
What does a good on-page SEO score look like?
A score of 80 or more out of 100 is graded Excellent. A page that scores there has exactly one H1, a 50 to 60 character title and a 120 to 160 character meta description. It also has alt text on every meaningful image, a canonical tag, Open Graph tags, a lang attribute and valid JSON-LD.
Is this on-page SEO checker free?
Yes, completely free and with no signup. When you enter a URL, Mavek fetches that one public page and the analysis runs in your browser. When you paste HTML, it never leaves your device. For a full crawl of a live site with a prioritized fix list, Mavek runs a free SEO audit on its 14-day trial at /seo-audit.
How much does an SEO audit cost?
A one-page on-page check like this one is free. A full professional SEO audit of a whole site typically costs $500 to $5,000, per Clutch data compiled by SeoProfy, with small sites at the lower end. Our guide to SEO audit cost breaks the price ranges down, and Mavek's free 14-day trial includes a full-site audit.
How often should I run an on-page SEO audit?
Check every new or edited page before it goes live, and re-check your top pages after any template, CMS or theme change, because one template edit can strip titles or schema from hundreds of pages at once. A monthly pass over your 20 highest-traffic pages catches most regressions.
